Hello and welcome to Abilene Yarn Co!
My name is Emily McMillan, and it has long been my dream to bring a LYS (Local Yarn Store) to our West Texas yarn desert. We are so pleased to announce we are moving into our very own, larger shop space as of August 2025! Find us on S. 14th street in the strip with United Grocery Store. We are in the courtyard on the backside of River Oaks Village, behind American Honey Boutique.
Our spacious new shop is the perfect location for crochet and knitting classes, private lessons, and various other crafty workshops and events. We are proud to carry multiple brands of world-class yarn, gifts, needlework supplies, and ore, with new goodies arriving regularly.
Pop in for a visit, a gift, or to pick up some new supplies, learn a new skill or make some new friends. While you’re there, you can also browse offerings from local artists and vendors with a great selection of amazing handmade items.
We look forward to creating something beautiful together!
THE AYC CREW!
Meet Emily McMillan!
I am the proud owner of Abilene Yarn Co. I’ve been crafting and collecting craft supplies all my life, and crocheting up a storm for the past 15 years. I am currently working on improving my knitting skills so I can enjoy the Doodle Decks stranded colorwork!
Favorite AYC product: Ricorumi Nilli Nilli mini skeins and super cute coordinating pattern books.
Currently on my hook: Sirdar’s Summer Picnic blanket CAL! Countless store samples and swatches, and several hexagon cardigans for fall!
When I’m not crafting: I’m reading lots of fantasy books, trying to catch up on sleep or chauffeuring my kiddos around town! Maybe escaping to Vagabond for a date with my hubby!
Meet Kara Wilson!
I am a student at McMurry University working towards a degree in Art Education. My dream is to be a High School art teacher. I have been crocheting for many years, focusing on decor, wearables and useful items. I have also recently begun to knit and I’m learning to spin my own yarn!
Favorite AYC product: HAS to be the Universal Yarn Bamboo Bloom.
Have I ever worked with it? No! But, I just LOVE how it looks as a hank and a project!
Currently on my hook/needles: I am currently knitting a sweater, crocheting a blanket, and a million other things.
When I’m not crafting:
I am an artist with experience in many different mediums, my current favorite being ceramics! I also love to sit at coffee shops and look cool and mysterious with my awesome fiber craft.
Meet CB Kinnard!
I picked up crocheting about 6 months ago, and since then I’ve managed to add knitting and cross stitch to the mix. My goal is to finish my Biology degree to become a park ranger on the West Coast—ideally at Crater Lake National Park (because who wouldn't want that office view?).
Favorite AYC product: Malabrigo Rios, hands down. The colors are gorgeous, and it never fails to give me ideas for more projects than I’ll ever realistically finish!
On my hook/needles right now: An 8.5 × 13 inch cross stitch of The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. It’s only my second cross stitch project… so you could say I dove right into the deep end.
When I’m not crafting: You’ll probably find me at the thrift store, treating it like a competitive sport and convincing myself that, yes, I definitely need that t-shirt that I already have five of!
Meet Kylie McQuade!
I’m all about good vibes, bright colors, and good conversation. I taught myself to crochet two years ago and fell in love. I love making anything funky granny square related.
Favorite AYC Product: Sirdar Happy Cotton! I love working with cotton and the wide color range in this line is unmatched!
Current Project: T-shirt ponchos! Anything involving a granny stitch and I’m in!
When I’m not crocheting: I work as a hair stylist specializing in higher needs kids, and curly hair! I also dabble in different craft mediums like watercolor and Junk Journaling!
